LUFS SLIDER

Use LUFS as a shared reference for audio loudness, alongside your own sense of whether a recording sounds loud or quiet.

Why look at LUFS?

Peak levels alone do not always tell you how loud a recording feels overall. LUFS measures loudness over time and can help you make decisions when preparing audio for distribution or matching the levels of several tracks.

A target is a reference

A suitable loudness target depends on the genre, dynamics, destination and artistic intent. Listen to the balance of the original recording as you work, rather than flattening its dynamics just to reach a number.

A practical workflow

First check the original audio, then compare its loudness with your intended target. After making adjustments, listen for changes in the bass, the clarity of vocals and instruments, and the character of brief peaks.
